The Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program supports the research and teaching careers of talented young faculty in the chemical sciences. Based on institutional nominations, the program provides discretionary funding to faculty at an early stage in their careers. The Foundation seeks Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholars who demonstrate leadership in research and education. Nominations must provide compelling evidence of the advancement of important knowledge in the chemical sciences (including chemistry, biochemistry, materials chemistry, and chemical engineering) by the nominee. Further, the nomination should describe dedication and contributions to education in the chemical sciences, particularly with respect to undergraduates.

Eligibility -  Nominees must:

  1. Hold a full-time tenure-track academic appointment focused on the chemical sciences
  2. Be from Ph.D. granting departments in which scholarly research is a principal activity and undergraduate education is an important component
  3. Be within the first six years of their independent academic careers at the time of submission of the nomination 

Institutional Limit: Institutions may submit only one Camille Dreyfus nomination annually. Renominations are accepted.

Application Information:  Applicants must submit 1) A summary description (up to 2 pages) of the nominee’s research accomplishments as an independent faculty member and future research plans and 2) A one-page statement that illustrates the nominee’s efforts in education in the chemical sciences. Applications not adhering to this requirement will be returned without review. 

Review Criteria: Internal white papers will be reviewed based on the following criteria found in the solicitation:

  • Evidence that the nominee's independent scholarly research has led to important advances in the chemical sciences, and will continue to do so
  • Demonstration of  dedication and contributions to education in the chemical sciences, particularly with respect to undergraduates and the larger community.
  • Nominee's awards and honors, publication of research achievements in leading journals, and success in attracting research funding
